Can I Choose to Send Only Part of My SAT Score?
One common question among SAT test-takers is whether they can send only some of their SAT scores to colleges — maybe just their best section scores or a particular test date.
Can I Choose to Send Only Part of My SAT Score?
One common question among SAT test-takers is whether they can send only some of their SAT scores to colleges — maybe just their best section scores or a particular test date.
How Score Reporting Works
- Score Choice® Policy: The College Board offers a feature called Score Choice, which allows you to select which SAT test date scores you want to send to colleges. This means if you took the SAT multiple times, you don’t have to send every test result — just the ones you choose.
- Whole Test Reporting: However, you cannot send partial scores from a single test date. When you send your SAT score from a specific test date, the entire score report for that test — including all sections (Reading, Writing & Language, Math) — is sent.
What You Can and Cannot Do
What You Can Do | What You Cannot Do |
---|---|
Send scores from only your best SAT test date(s) | Send only certain section scores (e.g., only Math) from one test date |
Send scores to some colleges but not others | Send scores from a test date that you did not take |
Use Score Choice to manage which test dates are sent | Edit or remove individual section scores |
Exceptions & College Policies
- Some colleges require all SAT scores from every test date (they don’t accept Score Choice).
- Always check the admissions policy of each college you’re applying to, so you understand their score submission preferences.
You can choose which test dates to send but cannot split or send only part of a test’s scores. The full score from a test date will be sent if you choose to share that test date.
This gives you flexibility to showcase your best overall performance without sharing less favorable test dates. Just remember to research individual college policies before sending your scores.
